Barriers & Boundaries
In this era of impersonal communications, ethnic, racial, religious and sexual orientation hostility, the concept of this work is to bring people within their private zone spaces. By doing so, this will symbolically bridge the divide between each other, to hopefully relate in peace and understanding.
Looking through the eyeholes on four sides of a 10”x10” box enveloped with a lead skin, viewers will be unable to find themselves in the mirrored interior of the piece. However, they will see the reflected eyes of the other three participants, while simultaneously being within each other’s private zone spaces. The lead covering of “Barriers & Boundaries”, which is becoming mask-like from viewers use, was selected because of its natural barrier properties and implied protection between self and “the other”.
